Picking up stompies to celebrate World No Tobacco Day

Learners from Rusthof Senior Secondary in picking up stompies on the Strand beaches.

The City of Cape Town’s Health Department, and Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Patricia van der Ross, joined learners from Rusthof Senior Secondary in picking up stompies on the Strand beaches.

 ‘I want to commend these young people for giving up their time to help make our beaches beautiful. I want to encourage visitors to our bathing spots to ensure they drop their litter in a bin and keep our spaces clean for all to enjoy,’ said Councillor van der Ross.

The clean-up came ahead of World No Tobacco Day on 31 May 2022 and this year’s theme is ‘Tobacco is killing us and our planet ' and is aimed at raising awareness about the harmful impact of tobacco on the environment.
